Lincoln Community Foundation’s (LCF) purpose is to inspire our community to give, act, and lead so that everyone in Lincoln has an opportunity to thrive. In service of this mission, LCF partners with individuals and institutions to support and facilitate their generosity.  Currently LCF has nearly 1,300 funds, and over 400 planned gifts, each of which represents a unique partnership where LCF is committed to the donor’s unique charitable passions and intentions. These include actively managed funds, with donors making grant distribution decisions, and permanently or temporarily endowed funds, with LCF managing the grants process based on the donor’s specific instructions. No matter a donor’s passion or financial capacity, LCF has something for everyone. LCF has charitable assets of approximately $200 million, receives approximately $25 million in contributions annually, and awards approximately $23 million in grants annually.  

Staff Accountant 

Reports To: VP, Finance and Operations
Status:   Full‐time exempt position

Position Summary:   
LCF is hiring an Staff Accountant to serve as a member of the Finance and Operations team. The Finance and Operations team is responsible for accepting financial contributions, disbursing grants, fund accounting, investment oversight, and reporting for all LCF charitable and operating activities. 

The Staff Accountant serves as a key member of the Finance and Operations team and LCF’s purpose. The Staff Accountant role focuses on executing grant payments on behalf of LCF and its donors, accounts payable, review of contributed gifts, select fund management, and data analysis. This position will assist the Vice President for Finance, Senior Accounting Manager, and Vice President for Community Outreach as needed.  

Essential Duties:

  1. Process grant payments on behalf of LCF donors to qualified nonprofit organizations. This includes ensuring tax exempt and good standing status of the nonprofit organization, documenting decisions, executing the grant request, and recording the grant. Collaborate with Philanthropy Services team and Community Development team to problem solve issues as they arise in the course of distributing grant awards. 
  2. Process accounts payable invoices and payments to vendors, and recording the disbursement; gather W-9 forms from vendors and verify for accuracy and completeness and prepare 1099 forms; track sales/use tax and file monthly Sales/Use Tax Form.
  3. Manage fiscally sponsored organization funds, including preparing financial projections and support in preparing budgets, processing invoices and grants, preparing requested reports, and providing other financial analysis support as needed. Ensure accuracy and charitable purpose of payments and grants per established fund agreements.
  4. Support the VP of Finance in administration of the LCF Finance Committee including preparation of reports and documenting decisions. 
  5. Assist in tasks associated with quarterly reporting, annual audit, and annual tax filing.
  6. Analyze data as needed, including giving and grantmaking data for the annual Give to Lincoln Day event.
  7. Cross-train in functions performed by Senior Accounting Manager and Finance Assistant to create redundancy in positions. 
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or an associates degree combined with equivalent work experience; knowledge in accounts payable and receivable preferred; strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with fundraising software preferred; good oral and written communication skills; willingness to learn and grow responsibilities; excellent problem-solving skills; highly organized and ability to meet deadlines; attentive to detail, quality and accuracy;  ability to interrelate with wide variety of people.
