As one of the newest team members here at the Lincoln Community Foundation – I certainly appreciate the value of an introduction. While meeting with the folks in LCF’S charitable network, one of the things that has stood out to me during my first weeks on the job is the thoughtfulness that donors bring to their philanthropy.

If your client base includes business owners, you’re no doubt at least generally aware of the benefits of giving closely held business interests to charity. Beyond that, though, the details may get fuzzy. That is totally understandable! Most advisors encounter only a few of these opportunities over an entire career.

If you’re like many advisors, you may have discovered that often charitable giving conversations begin (and end!) with cash or appreciated stock. And of course, you are well aware that appreciated stock is an excellent choice for your clients to fund a donor advised or other type of fund at the Lincoln Community Foundation because it may avoid capital gains tax while also possibly triggering eligibility for a charitable deduction at fair market value. 

15th Annual Give to Lincoln Day Surpasses $11M

The 15th annual Give to Lincoln Day on May 28 raised more than $11 million for 497 local nonprofits – the highest amount raised in the event’s history and $1.5M more than the year prior.
