Kathryn Slaughter Reed*

NARRATIVE:
Kathryn was born on the family farm in Gregory County, SD, to Joseph and Catherine Slaughter. In 1926, she moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska, receiving a BA degree in 1931. She was employed as a secretary for an accounting firm for a number of years. In 1940 she married Eugene Reed, a renowned professor of geology at UNL. Helping others understand and appreciate Eugene's work was one of Kathryn's greatest joys. Together, Kathryn and Eugene were ambassadors for the unique geological resources of Nebraska, traveling the world and helping to establish the University of Nebraska as an international leader in groundwater science.  Kathryn had an ongoing passion for the University of Nebraska and the state of Nebraska.
